kck flag_KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) Foreign Relations Committee released a statement about the fighting in Shengal, South Kurdistan that erupted after the so-called “Peshmerga Forces” of the KDP attacked Xanesor town Friday morning.

In its statement, KCK pointed out that the attack came after the recent meeting of KRG President Masoud Barzani with Turkish officials in Ankara, describing it as a second genocidal attack.

Remarking that the verbal attacks of the KDP and the Turkish state against the people and defense forces of Shengal have reached a new dimension as of yesterday, KCK said: “Attacks on the Shengal people and their defense forces YBŞ/YJŞ have gained an armed form since yesterday. It is noteworthy that this attack came after Masoud Barzani met with Turkish President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım twice within a week. The attacks on Shengal were planned within the scope of these talks. Turkish Foreign Minister announced very clearly yesterday that they would attack Shengal together with KDP. The attacks were launched this morning, soon after this confession.”

KCK continued;

“It is understood that the forces attacking Shengal and the Êzidî people, whom the KDP and the Turkish state recruited together, involve gangs trained by the Turkish state. YBŞ and YJŞ are a landmark that became the fortress of Êzidî resistance during the genocidal attack of ISIS in 2014. The forces that attack Shengal today and the forces that attacked Shengal in 2014 are acting with the same mentality and political purposes. The forces carrying out today’s attack want to devastate the fortress of resistance that was built after 2014, and to end the Êzidî presence in Shengal. By means of these attacks, the Turkish state tries to turn the Southern Kurdistan territory into a battle field, starting from Shengal, and thus to invade this territory. It goes without doubt that the current attacks have nothing to do with Kurdishness and Kurdish interests, but they entirely serve the Turkish state and the AKP-Erdoğan government.”

KCK stressed that for this reason, the people of Southern Kurdistan should be sensitive against the attacks of the Turkish state and its proxies, and a much more sensitivity should be manifested by the patriotic political and social circles.

“All our people should know that our movement will never hesitate to defend the Êzidî people of Shengal just like it did in 2014. On this basis, we call upon everyone to act with sensitivity against the second wave of genocidal attacks of the Turkish state and KDP, and we invite the Southern Kurdistan people, all political parties, intellectuals, writers, NGOs and the international public opinion to adopt a stance against this aggression.”
