demo-ocalan-switzerlandUpon the initiative of Kurdish Women’s Movement and Democratic Kurdish Society Center (NCDK) in Switzerland, Kurdish people and their friends living in the Swiss cities of Aarau, Lausanne, St.Gallen and Geneva took to the streets to protest against the aggravated isolation imposed on Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan and demand his freedom.

LAUSANNE

Kurdish demonstrators rented ferry boats in Lausanne lake from which they drew the attention of the public to the Kurdish people’s demand for the freedom of Öcalan. The ferry boats were decorated with pictures of the Kurdish leader and banners reading “Freedom for Öcalan” in French language. The activists sailed for a long time through the lake and drew much attention of the Swiss locals and tourists.

Members of Lajin Women’s Council handed out flowers to the people.

ST. GALLEN

Another demonstration for ÖCalan’s freedom was held in the city of St. Gallen, where the Kurdistan people rented a boat at the Rorschach harbour which they adorned with pictures of Öcalan. The demonstrators toured in the lake of Bodensee for around two hours to express the demand for Öcalan’s freedom to the public.

The activists on the ship chanted slogans for the freedom of the Kurdish leader and were symbolically supported by the Swiss locals with applause.

AARAU

Highlighting their demand for freedom for the Kurdish people’s leader, Kurdish women living in Aarau attached banners reading “Freedom for Öcalan” in German language to balloons, and set them free in Aarau’s city center.

GENEVA

Kurds living in Geneva also held a ferry-boat demonstration. The activists decorated a ferry boat with posters of Öcalan and sailed through the lake of Geneva chanting slogans for the freedom of the Kurdish leader. The activity drew much attention from the public. A speech was also held at the scene of the event which highlighted the isolation imposed on Öcalan, and the international community was called upon to fulfil their responsibility for his freedom.
